Celler Tuets

Celler Tuets is situated in the hills of the D.O Penedes, between Barcelona and Conca de Barbera, where Albert Navarro farms 22 hectares of vines inherited from his family. Here, having been making wine since he was 19 – about 20 years ago – Albert began making wine under the Mas Tuets label in 2012.

Located on a mountainside just outside of the village of Aiguamurcia, the property spans 70 hectares in total and, in addition to vines, is home to a diverse range of pine, olive and almond trees as well as herbs, shrubs and wild flowers. The newly built winery in the centre of the property is located next to the Mas Tuets – mas in Catalan denoting a traditional farmhouse – which in this case dates back to the 1700s and belongs to a small group of inhabited farmsteads in Aiguamurcia referred to as Les Ordes. Historically where the wine was made, the restored farmstead is now where Albert lives and is also used for agritourism accommodation.

The vineyards are home to parallada, macabeu, garnacha blanca, chenin blanc, Muscat of Alexandria, garnacha, syrah and tempranillo. For most of the cuvees, fruit is destemmed and pressed to steel tank, with two cuvees seeing elevage in amphora. Relatively low alcohol levels is a feature across all the cuvees and is partly attributable to the southern aspect of the property, which looks out toward and enjoys the cooling marinade winds from the Balearic Sea. The soil is calcareous with areas of clay. The farm gained organic certification shortly after it was taken over by Albert, who also implements certain biodynamic principles he believes are relevant for the property.
