2013 Sylvain Martinez 'Goutte d'O' Chenin Blanc

Medium bodied, mineral, energetic and very high quality chenin blanc grown on schist soils.

If you enjoy freshness in your wines and love savouriness and minerality than don't hesitate to fly in to a bottle of this genius from Sylvain Martinez.

Serve with or without food - although this with a piece of young-ish goats milk cheese is a deeply, deeply rewarding combination.

Charlotte and I worked in this part of France for vintage in this year and the conditions created slowly evolving, highly refreshing white wines. The '13s are just starting to reveal fruit after a lengthy hibernation and the wait has been has been much more than worth it.

This wine is extremely good to drink.

For this cuvee, Sylvain slowly presses, settles and then racks. fermentation takes place in old oak and the wine is bottled after roughly 10 months.

And that's it!

The fruit is crystalline thanks to the elevage and the structure is classically chenin...mineralty and driving acidity.

Sylvain is a really great guy. He's serious but relaxed, he farms very special terroir (Anjou black schist) and he worked for years with one of the very great leaders, Oliver Cousin.
